Appendix

File Types of P.I.F. Frames

Note:
If you selected Printer in List in the Select a Printer dialog box, some information in certain P.I.F. Frames may be omitted. In addition, the P.I.F. Frame supporting multiple paper sizes must be converted to multiple frames, each supporting a single paper size. In this case, the dialog box is displayed to select paper sizes to be added. If you selected Other Printer in the Select a Printer dialog box, you cannot add certain P.I.F. Frames.

There are four types of P.I.F. Frames.

Type

Structure

What you can do with the P.I.F. Frame

usd

Consists of a file with the extension .usd and a folder of the same name as the xxx.usd file

Standard P.I.F. Frame

fd2

Consists of a file with the extension .fd2

Enhanced version of fdp type, with more features, such as multiple paper size support within a single file.

fdp

Consists of a file with the extension .fdp

P.I.F. Frame that consists of a file made of used files and its related folder in one package. Without any related folder, an fdp file is easy to handle.

usm

Consists of a file with the extension .usm, a file with the extension .usd and the related folder

P.I.F. Frame for digital camera and supports multiple paper sizes

Caution:
  • Do not delete the related folder of a usd file; otherwise, the P.I.F. Frame will become unusable.
  • Do not delete the related folder or any of usd file of an usm file; otherwise, the P.I.F. Frame will become unusable.

Note:
  • When you store a usd file and an fdp file of the same name in the same location, EPSON PRINT Image Framer Tool treats them as different P.I.F. Frames. However, when you add the P.I.F. Frames to the software for P.I.F. or to a printer's memory card, they are treated as the same P.I.F. Frame.
  • When you move or copy a usd file or usm file from Add destination to Add source, the P.I.F. Frame format becomes fdp. Using this function, you can easily convert a usd file or a usm file to an fdp file, which is easy to handle because it consist of one file.
